frequently asked questions

We understand that functional medicine might be a new concept for some people. That's why we've put together this list of frequently asked questions to help answer some of your questions and concerns. If you don't see your question listed here, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.

What is a nurse practitioner?
A Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) who has acquired additional education and clinical training, allowing them to provide a wide range of healthcare services. NPs play a crucial role in the healthcare system, offering comprehensive and holistic care to patients across the lifespan.

Do you provide primary care services?
Currently, we do not provide primary care services. We provide functional health services and work in conjunction with the treatment plans created by your primary care provider (PCP). We recommend sharing any lab work or treatments we provide with your PCP.

Do I need to live in New Mexico to receive care from Starry Sky Holistic Health?
Yes, currently we are only licensed to provide care in New Mexico.

Do I need a primary care provider (PCP)?
Yes. It is required that all patients of Starry Sky Holistic Health have a primary care provider (PCP). We are not a full-time clinic and do not have the resources to be available to patients every day of the week.

Do you prescribe medications?
Yes, we can prescribe medications when necessary.

What if I have an emergency?
If you have a medical emergency, please do not call the clinic. Please call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.

Do you take insurance?
Unfortunately, we do not accept insurance. Insurance companies do not currently reimburse for functional medicine services. It may be possible that your insurance will cover some lab costs. Please ask the clinic for further details.

How do I reach the clinic?
The fastest way to receive a response is to email the clinic at info@starryskyholistichealth.com. Although we do not offer services full-time, we do check email twice a day.

Do you have an in-person clinic?
We do not currently have an in-person clinic. We offer all services via telehealth only.

What age group do you work with?
We work with patients of all ages. Please reach out to the clinic to see if our services are right for you or your family.

What conditions do you treat?
Conditions commonly treated by functional medicine include, but are not limited to, chronic diseases such as autoimmune disorders, gastrointestinal disorders, hormonal imbalances, metabolic issues, and chronic inflammatory conditions. Please reach out to the clinic to determine if we can help with your specific health issue.

What does it look like to work with the provider at the clinic?
You will have multiple telehealth visits with the provider. The first visit will focus on obtaining an extensive health history, discussing concerns, and possibly ordering lab work. The second visit will be a review of any findings found on the lab work results and treatment recommendations. Depending on the treatment provided, there will be follow-up visits to assess the effectiveness of treatment.

Will I be prescribed supplements?
Dietary supplements, along with nutrition and lifestyle modifications, may be recommended as part of your treatment plan. If a supplement is recommended, the provider will ensure that you receive all the necessary education needed to make an informed decision on supplement use.
